McKenzie Funk

McKenzie Funk is the author of a forthcoming book about money and climate change from The Penguin Press. A 2012 Knight-Wallace Fellow, he won the Oakes Prize for Environmental Journalism for his reporting on the melting Arctic and was a finalist for the Livingston Award for his interview in Tajikistan with one of the first prisoners released from Guantanamo Bay. With a grant from National Geographic's Expeditions Council, he hitchhiked the length of the new Trans-Siberian Highway, and he was a (non-summitting) part of the second American team to ski 8,012-meter Shishapangma, in Tibet. His articles and photographs have appeared in Harper's, National Geographic, Rolling Stone, Outside, and various other publications. He lives in Seattle with his wife and son.
