Rod Lamkey began his photojournalism career in the mid-1980s working as a freelancer for United Press International and Agence France-Presse. In 1992 he joined the Chicago Tribune as part of their staff, having worked since then at several newspapers, such as The Oakland Tribune and The Washington Times. Over the past 20 years, Lamkey has worked on long-term issue-related documentaries concerning the Israel-Hezbollah war in Lebanon, drug addiction in rural America the recovery of southeast Louisiana, and mental health care in a post-Katrina New Orleans.

He has been part of two Pulitzer Prize team-finalists (1994, Chicago Tribune, and 2003, The Washington Times), as well as being the recipient of various awards including from the White House Newspaper Photographer's Association, National Press Photographer's Association's Best Of Photojournalism, Bay Area Press Photographer's Association, and the California Press Photographer's Association. https://rodlamkey.photoshelter.com/index
