Cristine Russell

Cristine Russell is an award-winning journalist who has written about science, health, the environment, and climate for four decades. She is a senior fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School’s (HKS) Belfer Center Environment and Natural Resources Program and is a former HKS adjunct lecturer in public policy.

Russell has written for Scientific American, the Atlantic, Columbia Journalism Review, and other publications and is a former national reporter for The Washington Post. She is a past president of the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing and of the National Association of Science Writers. In 2017, she co-chaired the World Conference of Science Journalists.

Russell was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2020. She is an honorary member of Sigma Xi, the scientific research society, and fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. She is active in efforts to improve science journalism and communication to the general public about controversies in science.
