Christiane Badgley

GRANTEE

Christiane Badgley is an independent producer and editor of social issue documentary films. She began her career in the San Francisco Bay Area where she was a frequent collaborator of acclaimed American director Marlon Riggs. In 1994 she moved to France and has worked with European broadcasters Arte, France 5, ZDF and WDR on projects set in Africa, the U.S. and Europe.

Badgley began working on African issues in the early 1990s, writing about and documenting the role of Western media in Ghana. She has since collaborated with a number of African filmmakers on projects in Cameroon, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Namibia, South Africa, Togo and Benin.

Badgley has been exploring issues related to oil and development in Africa since 2008 and "Ghana: Oil City Stories" is part of this ongoing work.

This is Badgleys second collaboration with the Pulitzer Center. In October 2009, the Pulitzer Center provided support for Pipe(line) Dreams: A Journey Along the Chad-Cameroon Oil Pipeline. That collaboration resulted in a short film, "Cameroon: Pipeline to Prosperity?" produced for Frontline World, the Pulitzer Center and The Center for Investigative Reporting. The film was released in June 2010 to mark the 10th anniversary of World Bank involvement in the Chad Cameroon Oil Development Project.
