Jennifer Redfearn

Jennifer Redfearn has six years of experience working on documentaries for WGBH, WNET, the Discovery Channel, TLC, and independent productions. Currently, Jennifer is directing and producing the independent documentary Sun Come Up, a film following the relocation of some of the world's first climate refugees, the Carteret Islanders. In 2008, she co-produced a science special – the final installment of an Emmy-nominated 20-year project that has tracked the lives and careers of seven Harvard medical students for WGBH/NOVA.

Prior to this in 2007, Jennifer was a consulting producer (New York) for the independent documentary Beyond Our Differences, which aired on the Bill Moyers Journal in December. While working for the company, she researched and developed a proposal for a documentary about Islam and produced a 10-day shoot in Jordan, interviewing Islamic leaders and scholars. She also field produced a medical series for the Discovery Channel in the summer of 2007.

Jennifer brings a background in environmental science and research experience to documentary filmmaking. She has conducted research and studied at the world's premiere tropical research station (La Selva Biological Station in Costa Rica and the world's second largest coral reef in Belize. With support from National Science Foundation she conducted research in a microbiology lab as an undergraduate, co-authoring a paper on cyanobacteria – the earth's first photosynthesizers – for the Archives of Microbiology (2002).

Jennifer holds a bachelor's degree in environmental studies from Wellesley College and a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Her projects have been supported by the National Science Foundation, Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, NYSCA, Friends of Horticulture, and the Open Meadows Foundation.
