Lauran Neergaard is an award-winning medical writer for The Associated Press based in Washington.

She joined the AP in Atlanta in 1989 as a general news reporter.  In 1992, she began focusing on health, covering the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  She transferred to Washington in late 1993 and covers public health and medicine.  

Neergaard is a 1989 graduate of the University of Georgia, where she studied journalism and global policy/Russian.
