Corn and Beans Destroy the Savannah Forests of Central DRC

Country:

Author:

This project focuses on two agricultural practices at the origin of the most dangerous deforestation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, that the state does not know how to stop and even NGOs do not know how to document. In the savannas of central DRC, gallery forests are constantly being cut. They constitute, for the peasants, a guarantee of good harvest, but also of deforestation.

Peasants rely on corn and beans for their local economy, and hope for better harvests. This project highlights latent conflicts in the context of ever-growing demand for forest cutting to clear new areas.
