SECTIONS

In this live conversation taking place on Twitter Spaces, the staff of the investigative journalism site Armando Info will talk with the editor of the Pulitzer Center's Rainforest Investigations Network. Through investigative grants, the reporters have dedicated themselves to revealing the actors and organizations behind environmental crimes and conflicts with indigenous communities in the southern region of Venezuela.

In this discussion, we will delve into the reasons why the reporters chose the topic of this investigation, which was also published in partnership with the prestigious Spanish newspaper El País.

They will also talk about the methodology applied to map illegal airstrips and the gold mines that are exploited by criminal organizations and Colombian guerrilla dissidents that nestle in the Venezuelan Amazon, with the acquiescence of Nicolás Maduro's regime.

To perform the mapping, the Rainforest Investigations Network's data team in alliance with data scientists from Earthrise Media agencies used machine learning techniques applied to high-resolution satellite images.

This conversation will be hosted by Armando.Info on Tuesday, March 29 at 6:00pm EDT in Spanish. RSVP via Twitter Spaces.

Speakers:

Joseph Poliszuk: co-founder of Armando Info and RIN Fellow

María de los Angeles Ramirez: Armando Info correspondent and RIN Fellow

Gustavo Faleiros: RIN Editor - Pulitzer Center (Moderator)
