Mark Thiessen

GRANTEE

Mark Thiessen is the Associated Press news editor for the Alaska and Hawaii bureaus.

He joined the AP in the Omaha, Nebraska, bureau in 1998 and working the previous 13 years for a chain of family-owned suburban newspapers in the Omaha area. Thiessen is a 1985 graduate of Midland Lutheran College, now Midland University, in Fremont, Nebraska, where he earned a bachelor's degree with majors in journalism and English.

After working in the Omaha AP bureau for five years, he was named day supervisor in the Salt Lake City bureau. In 2005, he was named news editor for the AP's Alaska bureau. Now, besides overseeing the two bureaus, he also writes, takes photographs and shoots video.
