Tiffany Higgins

GRANTEE

Tiffany Higgins is a journalist, photographer, and writer whose work centers on traditional peoples’ narratives about their river-forest homes in the Amazon basin in Brazil.

She was a 2022 Fulbright Scholar to the Brazilian Amazon, traveling up and down the Tocantins River, interviewing Indigenous, quilombola, and traditional riverbank peoples on community impacts of
a planned Araguaia-Tocantins industrial shipping channel.

Her narrative journalism, translation, and poetry appears in Atmos, Granta, Guernica, InfoAmazônia, Mongabay, OEco, Poetry, and elsewhere. She is the author of two collections of poetry.

When not traveling the Tocantins River, she can be found planting native plants in Oakland, California.
