Angela Walker

TEACHER FELLOW

With over twenty years of experience in education—from higher education instruction and college access work, to secondary instruction in English—Angela is committed to making learning a seamless process that prepares students for the progressions that come as they advance from high school to the workforce, the certification process, and/or collegiate study. Angela aims to foster inquiry and critical thinking at every stage of academic development. For nearly seven years at West Charlotte High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, Angela has instructed 11th and 12th grade Honors, Advanced Placement, and International Baccalaureate students with the ultimate goal of equipping them with the tools to navigate and address the issues of greatest concern to them. The issues that students have identified over the years have become the launchpad for some great student-led projects, including a school wide poetry slam and a parachute project bringing local awareness to climate change. Her hope is that the experience as a teacher fellow will provide additional insights and resources to engage a new year of students with global concerns to which they can connect.
