J. Scott Trubey

J. Scott Trubey is an investigative reporter at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Of late, Trubey has focused on the coronavirus pandemic and the state’s response to COVID-19.
Trubey joined the AJC in 2010 as a banking reporter, covering the fallout of the Great Recession on the state’s banks, businesses, and households. He reported on the fall of Georgia’s storied Sea Island and Reynolds Plantation and the story of a preacher turned investment guru who ripped off clients, a small Georgia bank, and staged his death. Trubey switched to commercial real estate and watchdogged how government lures companies with publicly funded incentives. In 2017, Trubey helped lead coverage of a sprawling corruption investigation of Atlanta City Hall.
He was part of a reporting team recognized with awards by the Atlanta Press Club, the Brechner Center for Freedom of Information and the News Leaders Association for exposing public records violations at Atlanta City Hall.
Trubey is a graduate of the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. He is also on the board of the National Association of Real Estate Editors. Prior to the AJC, Trubey reported on business, government, and crime at newspapers in Atlanta and Augusta, Georgia.
