Sana Malik

REPORTING FELLOW

Sana A. Malik is a documentary filmmaker and freelance journalist currently based in New York City. Sana has previously produced video for the Toronto Star and the Canadian Press, and has written for BuzzFeed, VICE and the CBC on issues of immigration, labor and inclusion. Before pursuing a full-time career in journalism, Sana worked in public health and humanitarian aid in Tanzania, Burkina Faso and the U.K. She has consulted for the Gates and the Mozilla Foundations on making tech more inclusive and ethical. Sana is the founder of an award-winning platform for multimedia storytellers of color called This is Worldtown. As a Pakistani immigrant, born in the U.K. and raised in Canada, she is dedicated to bringing stories of migration and belonging to the screen. Sana will graduate in September with an M.S. in Documentary Journalism from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. Guanajuato Norte is her first film, shot in Mexico with support from the Pulitzer Center.
