Clara Germani

GRANTEE

Clara Germani manages projects and coaches writing at The Christian Science Monitor. She has had bureau assignments with the Monitor in San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and South America. She was also Moscow bureau chief for The Baltimore Sun in the mid-1990s. She was managing editor of The New England Center for Investigative Reporting, a nonprofit news partner at WGBH radio. Germani started as a beat reporter in the Los Angeles court system for City News Service, and on the police beat at The Orange County Register. She has contributed to The St. Louis American.

She led a joint Monitor-New England Center for Investigative Reporting global investigation into carbon offset fraud that was funded by the Pulitzer Center and won an Overseas Press Club citation.

Nominated by three Monitor war correspondents, Germani won a Dart Society Mimi Award citation for editing on their work in Liberia, Central Africa, Iraq, and Afghanistan. She lives in Southern California and hikes the mountains of the Laguna Canyon Wilderness Park as a backcountry patrol volunteer in her off hours.
