J. Malcolm Garcia has worked as a freelance journalist in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Chad, Sierra Leone, Haiti, Honduras, Bolivia and Argentina. His work has been included in The Best American Travel Writing, The Best American Unrequired Reading, and is forthcoming in McSweeneys. His memoir, The Kharagee: A Chronicle of Friendship and War in Kabul will be published by Beacon Press in September, 2009.
