Sukanya Shantha is senior assistant editor at The Wire. With over 15 years of experience, she specializes in long-form investigative reporting on law, human rights, caste, gender, and social justice.

Her previous Pulitzer Center-supported series on India’s prison system, followed by a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by her, led to a landmark Supreme Court ruling that directed all states and Union Territories to completely overhaul their prison manuals.

Shantha holds a master's degree in law and has previously worked as a researcher with Amnesty International India and with several leading publications.
