GRANTEE

Yesica Fisch is the Associated Press' senior producer for television in West Africa, and she previously worked in Latin America and Europe.

While based in Brazil, Fisch covered the impact of COVID-19 in Latin America's largest country, and took on ambitious and challenging assignments, including reporting from Rio de Janeiro's favelas, where people's lives are impacted by the violent drug wars. She coordinated the coverage of the fires in the Amazon in 2019.

She also covered the political crisis in Brazil—the impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff and the imprisonment of former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva—the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2016, the collapse of a dam in Mariana (considered one of the worst environmental disasters), the 2014 World Cup, among other stories.

Her assignments have included the caravan of migrans on its way to the U.S.-Mexico border; the social and political crisis in Venezuela; the battle for Mosul in Iraq, including a story about the Yazidi children kidnapped by ISIS; the conflict in Gaza; and the social and economic crisis in Europe, among other stories.

In 2017 she was awarded in the International News Beat Coverage or Continuing Story category at the National Headliner Awards with the AP team in a cross-format coverage of violence in Brazil.

Fisch received the AP's Oliver S. Gramling Spirit Award in 2019.
