María de los Ángeles Ramírez is a Venezuelan journalist with 16 years of professional experience. She lives in the Venezuelan Amazon, where she has investigated the iron, gold, aluminum and steel industries; the expansion of mining; threats to the environment and pressures on Indigenous communities. 
 
Since 2005, Ramírez has been working for the independent digital newspaper Correo del Caroní, southern Venezuela’s primary news source. She has contributed to international outlets such as Reuters, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Univision, and The Guardian, among other European and Asian outlets. 
 
In recent years, Ramírez has worked on cross-border collaborative projects focused on mining businesses, the environment, and Indigenous peoples. In 2020, she was part of the winning team of the Gabo Award for the "Venezuela, the smugglers' paradise" story about mineral trafficking, published by InfoAmazonia, Correo del Caroní, The Correspondent, Miami Herald and Runrunes.
 
Ramírez has a Journalism degree from the Andrés Bello Catholic University, Guayana campus (UCAB) and is currently completing a master’s degree in environmental sciences.
