Harriet Constable

Harriet Constable is a multimedia journalist and self-shooting producer/director based in London. She covers a wide range of topics including environment, politics and equality through print, radio and video. She's explored the August 2017 Kenyan election through the eyes of a rollerblading subculture in Nairobi, tracked rhinos on foot for a story about community conservation initiatives in Northern Kenya, and investigated the deadly global demand for sand. Her work is featured in outlets including the The New York Times, BBC, The Guardian, The Times, Financial Times, NPR, The Economist, and she is a Rough Guide to Kenya co-author.

Originally from London, Harriet worked at the Financial Times before moving to Africa. Previously based in Nairobi and then Johannesburg, she was a 2016/17 board member of the Foreign Correspondents' Association of East Africa (FCAEA), and has received hostile environment and emergency first-aid training. She is a graduate of Columbia University's School of Journalism summer video workshop in New York.

Harriet's live reporting at Kenya's 2016 Ivory Burn was part of the WildAid #JoinTheHerd campaign, which won awards with Cannes Lions and The Drum. She was shortlisted for AITO Young Travel Writer of the Year 2017, and Travel Media Award for Broadcast Programme of the Year 2018. Harriet's story on sand was selected for the 'Pick of From Our Own Correspondent', and her film Fired Up aired at the China Women's Film Festival in 2019.
