"Embrace the Marajó" was a program lead by Senator Damares Alves, Minister of Human Rights during Jair Bolsonaro's administration. It was launched with the purpose of fighting human rights violations in the archipelago, which is one of the poorest areas of Brazil. Nevertheless, the program started to issue an excessive number of land permits in the Amazon River delta, with strong indications of fraud and land grabbing of a disputed area surrounded by forests and the Amazon River.
