Nailah Reine Barnes

REPORTING FELLOW

Nailah Reine Barnes, a graduate of Spelman College (summa cum laude and valedictorian), is an accomplished writer and curator. She graduated with degrees in international studies and French and concentrations in cultural and curatorial studies.

Her interest in global cultural affairs has led her to curatorial and research experiences across the U.S., France, Tanzania, Italy, Senegal, and the Caribbean.

As a curatorial fellow at the High Museum of Art, Barnes centered historically marginalized artists in her projects, including Off the Grid and Honoring Black Girlhood.

Supported by the Pulitzer Center and the Fulbright Program, Barnes uses her writing, research, and curatorial projects to showcase how Black female creatives experience and influence art and culture ecosystems worldwide. Her work highlights their diverse artistic contributions and entrepreneurial pursuits while exploring how they find joy and fulfillment in their journeys.

Barnes is also the founder of The Brains with Beauty Project, a nonprofit organization that helps Black girls (ages 8-18) excel academically and tend to their holistic wellness.
