Kevin Richardson

Kevin Richardson is a visual journalist at The Baltimore Sun whose camera has captured everything from the NFL and the Preakness, to the Freddie Gray uprising and trials, the case of "Serial" figure Adnan Syed, and Super Bowl XLVII. He appears with his gear at many of the area's biggest stories and has a passion for creative storytelling.

A versatile staffer in the newsroom, Richardson shoots still photos and video. He is a seasoned video editor who has trained The Sun's photographers in video editing.

Richardson started out at The Sun in 1997, and was an art director in marketing and advertising for 12 years. Later, he transitioned to the newsroom's sports department, where he spearheaded multimedia efforts and became the lead videographer. He created and maintained a blog on mixed martial arts for several years, and also covered high school, college and professional sports teams.

His award-winning videos, photos and stories have appeared in many media outlets, from The Washington Post and The Los Angeles Times, to CNN and ABC News. A graduate of Maryland College of Arts and Design, Kevin has also worked as a courtroom artist, most recently documenting the trials of the corrupt Baltimore police squad, the Gun Trace Task Force. Outside The Sun, he was the lead cinematographer for documentaries including "Love Letters to the Eastern Shore" and "Ghosts of 33rd Street."
