Jennifer Berry Hawes

Jennifer Berry Hawes is a reporter on The Post and Courier's Watchdog and Public Service team, which handles many of the newspaper's investigations and projects. She worked on a team that won the 2016 Pulitzer Prize in Public Service for Till Death Do Us Part, a series about South Carolina's epidemic of domestic violence, and she was a finalist in 2019 for the Pulitzer Prize in Feature Writing for "An Undying Mystery," about the 1944 execution of a Black 14-year-old.

Hawes covered the 2015 mass shooting at Emanuel AME Church and published a book called Grace Will Lead Us Home, about the massacre and its aftermath. St. Martin's Press published the book, which was a New York Times Editor's Choice selection.

Hawes has worked at the newspaper since 1998. Today, she focuses on investigative narratives.
