Alessandro Cosmelli is an Italian-American documentary photographer. He has traveled and worked in over 50 countries around the world and across the United States during the Obama and Trump eras, focusing on issues relating to human rights, conflict aftermath, and identity. His research is inspired by the dynamics and forces that shape our contemporary society and the interactions between individuals and their communities in a globalized world.

Cosmelli has published five monographic books, including Oltrenero (Contrasto, 2009) and Brooklyn Buzz (Damiani, 2012), both awarded by the Pictures Of the Year International among the best photography books of the year.

His images have been featured in leading publications around the world, including Vanity Fair, Newsweek, Stern, TIME, New York Times, L’Espresso, Corriere della Sera, and La Repubblica. HIs work has also been exhibited internationally and broadcasted across major multimedia platforms CNN, Yahoo News, and RAI.

He received awards from Pictures of the Year International, Photo España Award for Human Values, Prix de la Photographie, Paris, and the Tokyo International Photo Awards.

Cosmelli and Gaia Light are the creators of The Buzz Project, a multi-city photo project inaugurated in 2010. It represents a symbolic portrait of the contemporary metropolis and its inhabitants, as seen through the moving frame of the public bus window.
