Curtis Franklin

2020 POST-GRAD REPORTING FELLOW

Curtis Franklin is a visual storyteller and filmmaker who specializes in video and documentary. A native of Lexington, Kentucky, Curtis got his start on the student news network at the University of Kentucky (UK), where he covered news and sports stories that aired on local cable television. As a UK student, Curtis also contributed to the SEC Network on ESPN, working as a production assistant and feature reporter. His stories aired during live broadcasts of University of Kentucky athletic events and SEC Network programs. Curtis won seven college Associated Press awards as an undergraduate, including Best in Show his senior year. After graduating from UK in 2019, Curtis attended Northwestern University - Medill and earned his master's in journalism with a focus on documentary storytelling. At Northwestern, Curtis produced multiple short documentaries, including a piece about skateboarding and poverty in Argentina that was nominated for a regional Emmy award. Curtis graduated from Northwestern in August of 2020 with a master's in journalism.
