Initially interested in pursuing a career in sports journalism, he shifted his focus to criminal justice issues while at Penn State University.
After college and grad school, he was awarded fellowships at NBC News and ABC News. He then joined TIME magazine, becoming a staff writer covering gun violence, policing, and criminal justice policy.
