Lilia Saúl Rodríguez

Lilia Saúl Rodríguez is a journalist with 18 years of experience, based in Mexico City.
A data journalist with emphasis on transparency and access to information, she founded the first data team at a Mexican newspaper (El Universal). She won the Ortega y Gasset Award in 2016 for the Desaparecidos project. She was also a semifinalist of the Data Journalism Awards 2016 for the Trusts project. She also won the National Journalism Award in 2011 for the investigation El Equipo, which revealed the excessive payments Mexican police made to a television station to make a soap opera that praised the war against organized crime.
She worked at the magazine Emeequis and in digital news at Animal Político, W Radio, among others.
She is currently a reporter at the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), and was part of the Connectas team as digital editor. She was part of the board of Chicas Poderosas, a group that supports women in media.
She teaches courses and workshops to journalists in Mexico, and has presented exhibitions and workshops in the United Kingdom, Uruguay, Colombia, Honduras, El Salvador, among others. She also participated in the first Ibero-American Handbook of Data Journalism.
