Maurício Torres, who has a doctorate in human geography from the University of São Paulo, has carried out research into territorial conflicts in the Amazon. He has published and edited many books on the Amazon, including Amazonia Revelada: os descaminhos ao longo da BR-163 and Ocekadi: Hydroelectric Dams, Socio-Environmental Conflicts, and Resistance in the Tapajós Basin, which he contributed to and edited with Daniela Alarcón and Brent Milikan.
