Sarah Pabst

2022 AI ACCOUNTABILITY FELLOW

Sarah Pabst is a documentary photographer and visual storyteller based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In addition to autobiographical work, she focuses on women, identity, human rights, and environmental issues. She is a National Geographic Explorer and a Pulitzer Center grantee. Her work has been exhibited worldwide and has been published in numerous international outlets, such as TIME, National Geographic, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Bloomberg, and Der Spiegel, among others.

Pabst is a member of Women Photograph and Ayün Fotógrafas, a collective of eight female photographers united by Latin America, in partnership with Noor. In 2022, she was nominated as a mentor for the Women Photograph Mentorship Program.

Her work has been recognized in competitions such as Picture of the Year International, Pictures of the Year Latam, Daylight Awards, the International Photography Awards, and LensCulture Emerging Talents, among others. Her first book, Morning Song, was a finalist in the Lucie Photo Book Prize competition and named one of the Best Photobooks of 2021 by the Photographic Museum of Humanity. Pabst holds a master’s. in fine arts (painting/photography) and Spanish from the Universities of Wuppertal and Köln, Germany.

Before joining the 1st cohort of the AI Accountability Network, Sarah Pabst has been a Pulitzer Center grantee. Together with journalist Karen Naundorf she worked on a project on Gender Violence in Argentina: "Femicidal Cops: Argentine Women say, 'Basta!'"
