Drew Lewis is a second-year student at Howard University School of Law from Brooklyn, New York. She received her bachelor of arts in anthropology/sociology and French from Denison University.

Once at Howard Law, she was elected to the 1L Class Council. She serves as an admissions ambassador and a student assistant in the Office of Student Affairs. She split her first-year  summer between a federal judicial internship with Chief Judge Margo K. Brodie of the Eastern District of New York, and at the Tyrone Law Group, LLC, a boutique law firm in Maryland.

Lewis virtually ushered in the class of 2023 as the 1L Orientation vice-chair. She conducted environmental law research as a Howard Law Environmental Justice Center research fellow. She was also a contributor to the Pulitzer Center’s The 1619 Project Law School Initiative, making a lesson plan rooted in intellectual property for the “American Popular Music” article from The New York Times Magazine

As a second-year student, Lewis is the Howard Public Interest Law Society’s pro bono co-chair and an annual benefit auction coordinator. In preparation for the 2020 presidential election, she co-founded Law Students Protect the Vote, a nonpartisan campaign that encouraged law students to participate in voter protection programs to ensure that everyone eligible could exercise their right to vote. Furthermore, she organized a clemency drive with Talented Tenth, PLLC and congressional candidate Sheila Cherfilus McCormick to reinstate formerly incarcerated individuals’ voting rights. In the fall, she externed remotely at the U.S. Attorney’s office in D.C., gaining experience in both the Sex Offenses & Domestic Violence unit and the Civil Division. This semester, she is a student attorney with the Movement Lawyering Clinic, advocating on behalf of client organizations and broader communities fighting for their civil and human rights.

Lewis aspires to be a judge after litigating in the public and private sectors. As a law student, her goal is to explore the various areas of law, which will guide her into making a well-informed career decision.
