ONDE REPORTAMOS

Kalpana Jain

GRANTEE

Kalpana Jain is a long-time investigative journalist who worked at The Times of India for many years. She reported on India's ailing public health system and many other social justice issues. Her reports led to the resignation of a minister for health.

In 2008, she was selected as a Nieman fellow in global health reporting at Harvard and she spent time as part of the fellowship investigating the global drug supply chain. She moved into religion writing and reporting, believing that was an angle that was often missed in the daily coverage of news.

She studied gender and religion and holds a master's in theological studies from Harvard Divinity School and a master's in public administration from the Harvard Kennedy School.

She has worked as a writer and researcher at Harvard. Her case study on modern-day slavery in India, and a woman's fight against it, is part of a Harvard course, and her book on the AIDS epidemic in India, published by Penguin, is part of the curriculum at many Indian universities.
