As mulheres são hoje mais da metade do eleitorado brasileiro. Mas, do outro lado da urna, elas não chegam nem perto da parcela de homens eleitos. No ano em que o voto feminino completa 90 anos, a jornalista Angela Boldrini viaja o Brasil para contar a história de eleitoras, candidatas e eleitas e entender por que a desigualdade de gênero na política ainda é imensa. Women are now more than half of the Brazilian electorate. But on the other side of the ballot box, they are nowhere near the number of men elected. The premiere episode of Suffrage tells the story of the first female voter in Brazil, Celina Guimarães Viana, presents the incendiary English activists who caused explosions to claim the female vote, and shows how Rio Grande do Norte became the pioneer of political rights for Brazilian women.

The second episode of Sufrágio explains what lies behind the decree that 90 years ago gave women the right to vote and be voted for in Brazil, discusses what it is like not to have political rights, and what the barriers are for female voters in 2022.

In the universe of suits and ties that is Brazilian politics, who are the women who manage to get elected? The third episode of Suffrage analyzes the possible ways for female candidates to enter such a male-dominated race.

Participants include the Governor of Rio Grande do Norte, Fátima Bezerra (PT); city Councilwoman and candidate for federal deputy Erika Hilton (PSOL-SP); and candidates for the government of Pernambuco, Marília Arraes (SD) and Raquel Lyra (PSDB). O quarto episódio do Sufrágio conta a história do Lobby do Batom na Constituinte de 1987 e debate a atuação de eleitas e da sociedade civil pelos direitos das mulheres no Congresso desde a redemocratização, do aborto à pobreza menstrual.

The fourth episode of Suffrage tells the story of the Lipstick Lobby in the 1987 Constituent Assembly and discusses the actions of elected officials and civil society for women's rights in Congress since the re-democratization, from abortion to menstrual poverty.

O quinto episódio do Sufrágio discute maternidade, cotas eleitorais de gênero e como os partidos brasileiros atuam pra manter a política um ambiente masculino e branco.

Until 2016, the plenary of the Federal Senate did not even have a women's bathroom. The physical spaces and the functioning of power in Brazil were designed by men, for men. The fifth episode of Suffrage discusses maternity, electoral gender quotas, and how Brazilian parties act to keep politics a male and white environment.

No dia 14 de março de 2018, o assassinato da vereadora Marielle Franco (PSOL-RJ) mudou para sempre a política brasileira. Notícia no mundo inteiro, o atentado levou milhares às ruas no Brasil e gerou uma onda de candidaturas femininas negras. O sexto episódio do Sufrágio debate a simbologia de Marielle e a violência política de gênero contra eleitas e candidatas.

On March 14, 2018, the assassination of Councilwoman Marielle Franco (PSOL-RJ) changed Brazilian politics forever. News worldwide, the attack brought thousands to the streets in Brazil and generated a wave of Black female candidates. The sixth episode of Suffrage debates Marielle's symbology and gender-based political violence against elected women and female candidates.

In 2022, the right of women to go to the polls turned 90 years old and the female vote has never been more coveted. The final episode of Suffrage explains the reasons for the prominence of the female electorate in the presidential race.
