The Nusakambangan forest conservation campaign is also carried out through social media. The target is students and college students so that awareness continues.

DESPITE being known as a prison island, Nusakambangan Island is actually a home of biodiversity. One of the outermost islands in Indonesia is still home to rare and protected animals. It is also home to endemic flora not found elsewhere.

Researchers Eming Sudiana and Imam Widhiono MZ from the faculty of biology at Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed) in Purwokerto, Central Java, in their study of the Nusakambangan lowland tropical rainforest ecosystem said that the Nusakambangan forest is included in HCV 5. This means that it is an ecosystem that has high conservation value and the local community depends on the forest ecosystem.

In fact, they stated that the ecosystem services of the Nusakambangan forest area are needed by the people of Kampung Laut sub-district and cannot be replaced by other ecosystems. These ecosystem services include the abundance of water springs.

Therefore, for the people of Kampung Laut, preserving the forests of Nusakambangan Island is very important, even though there are a number of threats that arise, including logging, poaching, or illegal migrants.
