Naira Hofmeister has worked as a freelance journalist based out of Porto Alegre, Brazil since 2006. Over the course of her career, she has covered the social, political, and economic dimensions of everyday life and published work in over 30 different publications, in Brazil and across the world. Her recent work has focused on the environment and human rights and has stood out through investigative and context reports for publications like Mongabay, O Eco, The Intercept Brasil, Agência Pública and Deutsche Welle. In 2020, she was one of nine recipients of the Gabriel García Marquez Foundation Solutions Journalism grant. Her work has been recognized with the Human Rights Journalism Award, the Electoral Justice Journalism Award, and on more than one occasion, the Rio Grande Press Association Award (ARI).
