WHERE WE REPORT

Artisanal tree logging has come to account for half of the timber produced in the Congo basin, threatening the second largest rainforest in the world while generating millions of dollars.

Despite its impact, the trend remains one of the most underreported natural resource crises in the continent.

El País reporter Glòria Pallarès is reporting from Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of Congo to uncover the timber routes and corruption behind artisanal tree logging, tracking both where the financing is coming from and where the products are going to.
