Emily Ding is a Malaysian writer, journalist, and photographer. She is drawn to stories about the human struggle for visibility, autonomy, redemption, and survival, especially amid our migration and environmental crises.

Her work — which takes the forms of narrative nonfiction, news features, and essays, informed by the long shadows of history and conflict — has been published in the Virginia Quarterly Review, the Mekong Review, Al Jazeera, The Washington Post, the Guardian, CNN, Public Radio International, VICE Asia, South China Morning Post, Foreign Policy, WIRED UK, Slate, and others.

She works in and around Malaysia, but has also told stories from Indonesia, India, Chile, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
