Deforestation rates in the Amazon were 51 percent higher for the months January to March compared to the same period last year. The data comes from INPE, which shows that not even the novel coronavirus pandemic can inhibit deforestation. In March alone, deforestation activities increased by 30 percent. This is the first episode of the series, "Deforestation in the Amazon: Causes, Impacts, and Solutions," a partnership between CBN Amazônia Belém and the Rainforest Journalism Fund with the Pulitzer Center.
