In Ibeju Lekki, Nigeria, the construction of a seaport five years ago initially brought hope and excitement to the local residents. However, this joy turned out to be short-lived as the supposed development project brought on nothing but devastation to the ecological system, posing threats to the biodiversity of the region.
At present, the residents of the Lekki community face a new threat in the form of flooding. This can be attributed to the alarming disappearance of swamps and mangroves, directly resulting from the ongoing activities at the seaport.
