María Belén Arroyo

María Belén Arroyo is the political editor of Vistazo magazine, where she has been working since 2005. Previously, she worked for the newspapers El Comercio and El Universo.
She covered the financial and banking crisis that led to the adoption of the dollar as currency in Ecuador. She was a fellow in the second workshop of the Foundation for New Ibero-American Journalism, with Gabriel García Márquez.
In addition, she co-founded the Código Vidrio website and is co-author of the book Rehenes, por qué murieron los periodistas de diario El Comercio(Hostages: Why the Journalists of El Comercio Newspaper Died).
She is currently investigating issues related to organized crime, corruption, the Amazon, indigenous peoples, and endangered animal species.
