Straddling the Congo River, the Yangambi landscape is well known for the Yangambi Biosphere Reserve, where 250 thousand hectares of Congo Basin forests, located in the city of the same name, downstream from the Congo River, one hundred kilometers from Kisangani (Tshopo) are exposed to the high demand for charcoal and firewood. Large-scale logging without respect for the renewal of forest species has also negatively impacted the primary forests of the region. To preserve these primary forests exposed to predation, environmental NGOs are flocking there to fight deforestation.

How can the Congo Basin forests in Tshopo be preserved?

Jody Nkashama discusses this topic with Jean Fundi, an investigative journalist on forest issues in Tshopo province.
