Francesc Badia i Dalmases is a journalist, political analyst, and geopolitics expert, and founder and director of democraciaAbierta, a global platform for Latin American voices and a section of openDemocracy, London. He is a frequent international affairs analyst and media commentator, speaker at international debates and think tank seminars worldwide, and a regular contributor to El País, The Guardian, and many other international media.

Badia is a Pulitzer Center grantee and has been awarded the 2020 Gabo Prize. For five years, he was the general manager and a senior fellow at CIDOB (Barcelona Centre for International Affairs), one of southern Europe's most influential international relations think tanks, where he also acted as chief editor of its online publications.

Previously, he was the executive director of the Office of Coordination and Orientation of the URB-AL Program for Latin America of the European Commission, and general manager at the European Institute of the Mediterranean. He worked as a senior adviser for the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and was executive director of the EuroMed Regions Conference at the International Relations Office of the Government of Catalonia.

He was also conference coordinator and spokesperson at the Universal Forum of Cultures and managing and program director of the Interarts Foundation. Prior to this, he worked for 15 years as an international consultant, specializing in investment and foreign trade with emerging and transitional markets at Badia Trading.

Apart from his native Spanish, he is fluent in English, French, Italian, and Catalan, and speaks some Portuguese. Badia was born in Mexico and spends most of his professional life between Latin America and Europe. Badia is the author of several books, the most recent one being Order and Disorder in the 21st Century
