In the Brazilian state of Acre, Kampa do Río Amônea is home to the Indigenous Asháninka people who are dedicated to protecting the Amazon rainforests. When they decided to settle down in the Apua village, close to Peru border, they saw that a large pasture of land was without forests. To ensure their own survival and that of the fauna already living there, the community started to plant trees. They planted fruit trees like Açaí close to 300,000 over the span of 30 years. The people firmly believe and prove that the forests are more profitable standing than cut down. Over the years, they have protected the forest which acts like a rich shelter for endangered species and the community.
