Heriyanto is the editor-in-chief of the Pontianak Post, the largest newspaper in the province of West Kalimantan, Indonesia. Since joining the Pontianak Post in 2005, he has built his skills and credentials in investigative reporting on various topics, with a focus on environmental issues such as wildlife poaching, forest fires, and corruption.
His achievements include a number of prestigious journalistic awards in Indonesia, such as the Mochtar Lubis Award (2011) for his article on illegal gold mining that pollutes the Kapuas River in West Kalimantan, and the Indonesian Radio Award (2009) for reporting on the eviction of the Indigenous Dayak tribal group in the interior of Kalimantan by an oil palm plantation company.
In 2014, he co-founded the Society of Indonesian Science Journalists (SISJ). He served as the chairman of Indonesia’s Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) in 2014-2017. Heriyanto also teaches investigative reporting, ethics, and news writing courses at the Pontianak State Islamic Institute (IAIN).
